You've probably heard about serum and how wonderful and essential it is. But what exactly is it, and why should you use it? Which one should you choose, and how should you use it?
What is a serum?
A serum is a concentrated blend of active ingredients that work to boost your skin. You apply a serum to freshly cleansed skin so that the product can penetrate deeply. Despite its lightweight consistency, a serum has a potent effect. This is because a serum is formulated to target specific needs, issues, and desires. Therefore, there are various serums, each focusing on treating different skin conditions.
Why should I use a serum?
If you are young and don't have any challenges with your skin, a moisturizing face cream is often sufficient. However, if you have tendencies towards dry skin, fine lines, or perhaps deal with redness and blemishes, a face cream alone may not be enough. A face cream needs to have multiple properties and hydrate broadly, even if it has particularly good features for a specific need. In contrast, a serum is a targeted power-boost that your skin will love to receive every day.
How/when should I use a serum?
You should use a serum on cleansed skin before applying your day or night cream.
It works best when applied under the cream because it's more liquidy, making it easier to penetrate deeper into the skin.
Apply it all over your face and don't forget your neck and chest – areas we often overlook but can reveal neglect over time.
Which serum should I choose?Choose your serum based on the specific challenge you want to tackle. For instance, if you're dealing with dry skin, go for a serum that's super hydrating. If you're fed up with lines and wrinkles, opt for one with firming properties.
As many of us have experienced, you might have multiple challenges at once, maybe during certain periods. In that case, feel free to use two different serums – one for blemishes and another for lines, for example. This way, you're tackling both issues at the same time, and your skin becomes as healthy and beautiful as it deserves. You can also use one serum with specific properties in the morning and another for different needs in the evening.
